Webinar Overview:
The rapid expansion of total joint arthroplasty has led to an exponential increase in periprosthetic fractures. These fractures are often complicated by the comorbidities of the host, the question of stability of the implants, poor bone stock, chronic infection and limited bony anatomy due to implants. This webinar will concentrate on periprosthetic fractures of the femur about total hip and total knee prostheses. Diagnosis, critical evaluation and treatment will be discussed in a case-based approach.

Expected results of AONA's CME activities for surgeons, fellows, and residents are to:
• Increase their knowledge base and surgical skill level
• Improve competence by applying advances of knowledge in patient care in the areas of trauma, degenerative disorders, deformities, tumors, and reconstructive surgical techniques
• Address practice performance gaps by improving management of aspects of traumatic injuries and musculoskeletal disorders (i.e., pre-operative planning to post-operative care)
- Describe the steps in evaluating a periprosthetic fracture of the femur
- Develop a plan of action for care of periprosthetic fractures
- Detail challenges of fixation around implants
